Discover Bill's Burger Joint

If you’re strolling along Amstelveenseweg and suddenly catch the smell of sizzling beef and toasted brioche, chances are you’re close to Bill's Burger Joint at Amstelveenseweg 170A, 1075 XP Amsterdam, Netherlands. I’ve stopped by more times than I can count, sometimes after a long workday, other times with friends visiting the city, and it’s one of those places that consistently delivers exactly what you hope for from a proper burger diner: bold flavors, relaxed vibes, and a menu that keeps things simple but satisfying.

The first thing that stands out is the atmosphere. It’s casual, with that unmistakable American-style burger bar feel-wooden tables, an open grill, and the steady rhythm of patties hitting the hot plate. Yet it doesn’t feel gimmicky. Instead, it feels lived-in and local. During my last visit, I grabbed a seat near the counter and watched the kitchen team work. There’s a clear system: fresh beef weighed and shaped daily, buns lightly buttered and toasted to order, and toppings prepped in small batches to keep everything crisp. That kind of process matters. According to food safety guidelines from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), handling fresh ground beef properly and cooking it to the right internal temperature is critical for both flavor and safety. Here, the burgers arrive juicy but cooked with precision, which shows real attention to detail.

The menu focuses on classic burgers, cheeseburgers, and specialty creations stacked with bacon, caramelized onions, jalapeños, or house-made sauces. I once brought a colleague who swears by plant-based diets, and she was genuinely impressed by the vegetarian option. It wasn’t an afterthought; it had texture, seasoning, and balance. That aligns with the growing demand for high-quality meat alternatives. Research from Wageningen University in the Netherlands highlights how consumers increasingly expect plant-based options to match the taste and mouthfeel of traditional beef. Bill’s seems to understand that shift without abandoning its core identity as a burger joint.

What really elevates the experience is consistency. I’ve tested this place at different times-busy Friday nights and quieter weekday afternoons-and the standard remains steady. The fries are golden and crisp, not soggy. The milkshakes are thick enough to require serious straw effort. Portion sizes are generous but not overwhelming. In a city like Amsterdam, where new food spots pop up constantly, consistency is what turns first-time visitors into regulars.

Online reviews echo this pattern. Many diners mention the friendly staff and quick service. From my own experience, even when the restaurant is packed, the team communicates clearly about waiting times. That transparency builds trust. In hospitality, trust isn’t just about food quality; it’s about delivering what you promise. The address is easy to find, the location is well connected, and whether you’re a local from Oud-Zuid or a tourist exploring nearby attractions, it’s a convenient stop.

There’s also something to be said about the balance between indulgence and quality. Nutrition experts often remind us that while burgers are typically seen as comfort food, ingredient quality makes a difference. Fresh vegetables, properly sourced meat, and moderate portion control all play a role in creating a meal that feels satisfying rather than heavy. While Bill’s doesn’t market itself as a health-focused restaurant-and it shouldn’t-it does show care in sourcing and preparation. That care is noticeable in the taste.

If there’s a limitation, it’s that seating can be tight during peak hours. It’s popular, and space isn’t endless. Still, turnover is efficient, and takeaway is always an option if you prefer enjoying your burger at nearby Vondelpark.

All in all, Bill’s Burger Joint stands out not because it tries to reinvent the burger, but because it respects it. Solid ingredients, a clear cooking process, friendly service, and a prime Amsterdam location come together in a way that feels both reliable and genuinely enjoyable.

  • After having nearly all smash burgers in Amsterdam, this was by far the best. Potato bun, perfect lace and of course an Oklahoma onion smash is unbeatable. Rarely am fully satisfied after a smash, and here I was more than satisfied. Fries were super crisp and their signature sauce was perfect. Big plus for the Coke in a bottle!

  • The very best burgers in Amsterdam. The meat is shipped in from a grass fed beef farm and they use the end all be all potato buns from America. I have tried burgers all over Amsterdam and nothing compares. When I’m craving a cheeseburger this is the only place I come. Edit: please open for lunch! You seriously have the best burgers in Amsterdam

  • The people that work there are amazing ! Super helpful and nice with a beautiful vibe. The burger … I mean the burger had tons of pickles (it’s important to mention this ) so that was beautiful. The burger was great. Not the best but great and correct. The fries were a bit dry. But this is really important if you have a burger place you give free ketchup is not about the money is just part of the deal… burger and fries (ketchup)

  • Over the years I’ve partaken in many burgers. Some are very good, yet we forget them. But some are so good they stay with you, living rent free in your mind while eating other burgers. That’s what I’m experiencing after a the classic BLT at Bills. Thank you Bill, and curse your burger that has ruined future burgers for me!

  • We were starving and craving something tasty—but most of all, it had to be quick and easy to eat. That’s how we ended up at Bill’s Burger Joint. Now, there’s one thing that matters most to me when it comes to burgers: the bun. It should not fall apart. And let me tell you, Bill’s bun doesn’t just hold up—it’s one of the best burger buns I’ve had in Amsterdam. The burger itself was just as impressive—juicy, flavorful, and an absolute treat. The food came out super fast, the service was on point, the music was really good, and the prices were totally fair. All in all, a great experience—we’re definitely coming back!

  • We went as a couple with a baby after reading the reviews & it did not disappoint. Small comfortable American diner style restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The waitress was fantastic, helpful & provided a high chair for the baby. We ordered a double cheeseburger with onions & pickles, crispy chicken burger with frites, some dips & a couple of soft drinks. The cheese"smash"burger was the stand out & was awesome, tasty frites & dips. The food, customer service & location was fantastic Definitely recommend & return if in the area.
